Catholics are up in arms about the comments made by Bill Maher, a television talk show host on HBO. Mr. Maher made comments about the Pope being a youth Nazi, as well as the Catholic church being compared to the Texas cult in the light of child molestation. They have put a petition up to have Bill Maher fired, claiming that he lies, the only problem being is that they are either flat out lying themselves or just haven't done any research on the subject. It is not arguable, but admitted, that Joseph Ratzinger, the current Pope Benedict XVI, was a member of the Nazi youth. What is arguable is whether or not he was a willing participant, or should have resisted joining at the possible expense of life. On this, I cannot argue, most people would probably join. However, Mr. Maher did not comment on whether or not he wanted t be in it, simply that he was a member. Bill Maher spun that to make a joke, the Catholics over at the American Life League, a large Catholic based organization, have spun it to make a point to get Mr. Maher fired. The geeks have been pushing it for years now. The nerds tout their penguins and tell you how much they hate Microsoft(tm). It's been all the rage in tech circles since its appearance on the scene back in 1995, after Linus Torvalds, a student in Finland, introduced a new, open source operating system to the world. It was aptly named 'Linux'. Torvalds had wanted an alternative to expensive and bloated Unix operating systems, but instead what he created was an inexpensive alternative to, well, everything. For years now, Linux has been known primarily only to people in technology fields. While average home users may have heard of it, it is still surrounded in a cloud of mystery for the majority of people. When people think alternatives to the Windows operating system, they usually think of Apple's Mac OSX, but is it time to take a look at Linux? Recommend this article... |

Whether or not Scientology is a cult is open to some small debate, but it is odd that although Narconon is completely based on the teachings of Scientology, follows the writings of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard as its philosophical guide, and uses educational materials straight out of Scientology texts, they do not ever publicly admit any link to Scientology. Narconon boasts an incredible web presence, and any search on addiction or drug treatment topics will bring up hundreds of Narconon produced pages, and often on the first and second page of Google. These pages will sometimes identify as Narconon and sometimes not, but never will they reveal any affiliation to Scientology. Narconon hides its affiliation to Scientology for three reasons. 1. Many people don’t know much about Scientology, but... Recommend this article... |
