You go to the doctor, and as part of your treatment you are prescribed pain killers to help manage the discomfort. Opiates are a tremendously helpful and beneficial part of medicine that can help us get through pain that might otherwise prohibit us from living normal parts of our lives. The problem starts off small, many times almost unnoticeable. You take the painkillers for a while, and they help a great deal. Over time, maybe over several weeks or even a couple of months, however, you notice the pain has gotten worse and there's more discomfort than there was right after the injury occurred. This leads to a gradual increase in your pain meds, either via more pills or stronger ones. Soon, you're an addict. Recommend this article... |
