The Blame Game - To Play Is To Lose

What do you win when you play the blame game? If you could convince others that your parents are to blame for the way you are, what good would it do? If your business failure could be blamed on something that really wasn't your fault, would that help? Can blaming our personal problems on outside factors ever be helpful?

Possibly. There is some evidence that assigning failure to things outside our control may be useful for maintaining self esteem and motivation. An example is when someone says "Oh, the rain ruined the event," then adds, "I'll have to plan for that next time." The truth is, though, that many would just blame the rain without adding the second part of the thought.

G Ferraro

And by that I mean Geraldine Ferraro. Not Hillary. Let's go over a couple things. She said something that was completely honest and accurate. Then stood by it, and wouldn't back down for the sake of politics. After I pulled myself back up off the floor from feeling woozy, like reality had split at the seams, I felt dizzy.

If you think what she said bears a racist tone, you might be right. Not insomuch as her being a racist, but that the statement itself would lead one to believe that racism is playing a part in this campaign. Isn't it? Let's expand it to say discrimination, based on Ms. Clinton being a woman of the Caucasian persuasion. If you think that discrimination is not going to play a large part in the way people vote in the upcoming election, then I beg you to humble yourself enough to not vote in my country anymore. You're ignorance is inexcusable and intolerable.

The real problem here is easy...

As defined by “The Devil's Dictionary” - Ambrose Bierce

'PATRIOT, n.
One to whom the interests of a part seem superior to those of the whole. The dupe of statesmen and the tool of conquerors.'

Of course, one might think it insane to quote anything from a book called “The Devil's Dictionary” and try to put sincerity to it, as we would those sentiments that ring so true when we hustle out to buy the most cliché of materialistic and worn out gifts on days like that of Saint Valentine or one of my personal favorites, the third anniversary diamond ring. Is that, by chance, the third anniversary of the day the little villager's mom got raped by the rebel soldier whose war was funded by the blood diamonds you bought? Yeah. That's what I call sentiment. Look for certified “conflict free” diamonds. www.brilliantearth.com is a good place to start.

Now back to the patriotism. I grew up in the countryside of a beautiful small town in upstate New York. Mom and Dad were working class and they were my heroes. Proud Americans. Gotta love em. Dad loved watching the baseball games and cheering for the underdog (so, no – he never rooted for the Yankees...). Mom loved Halloween, trips to Vermont and my ever so perfect all-american fiance. In fact, looking back, I think Mom picked her and let me think I did. She did really good on that one. She did good on most things. The two things that stick out most in my life, things which I have to question when it comes to my beloved late parents...
