The Church of Scientology is under scrutiny again. This is not the first time. They have been making headlines again with allegations of abuse of eBay's "VeRO" policy, which allows owners of intellectual property to basically cancel auctions where they say their rights are infringed upon. In this matter it is still unclear as to whether their abuses of the system make them liable or if the accountability is shared with the website as well for not checking after numerous complaints about the abuse have been made.

When you buy your first home, or your second, or an investment property, or any land for that matter, can you really consider it yours? What exactly are you paying for? Sometimes it seems like more of a long term lease with payments that continue forever and regulations that don't always seem quite fair, especially in lieu of spending what some people have worked a lifetime to save for. String Theory and Supersymmetry are really neat-o concepts. Sometimes, though, we have to lean in favor of causality. If you're not familiar with that term, it means that you have a starting point for everything and you go outwards from there. The tricky part for scientists is determining a starting point. Time would have to have been non-existent at uhhh... some point.. in .. um... time. Now let's apply this to real life. Estimates of as many as 50,000 or more Iraqi women and children are being forced into prostitution in Syria alone. Girls as young as 13. They can't go home or they may face death, and they can't afford to live, so they sell themselves cheaply to men from all over the middle east so as to be able to afford food and shelter. Is this the fault of President Bush? Can we work backwards to find a starting point that brings all of these events into effect? First we would have to... Recommend this article... |
